The vicious and senseless attack on a 65-year-old woman in midtown Manhattan is another horrifying example of the ongoing racist violence against the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities in this country.
The Innocence Project is angered and saddened by the mass shootings in Atlanta and the far too many random acts of brutality against members of the AAPI community in cities throughout America. We unequivocally condemn such targeted violence, discrimination and harassment. We stand with the AAPI communities who continue to experience and suffer this country’s long and shameful history of discrimination. And we commit to speaking out against racism and xenophobia in our work, our workplaces and the streets in which we live.
Everyday, as we fight to free the innocent and reform the criminal legal system, we confront racism and injustice. Combatting the pernicious effects of these truths is at the core of what we do.
The rich diversity of our communities and of our Innocence Project family is one of our greatest strengths and one we will continue to uplift and celebrate.
