Yusef Salaam was just 14 when he, along with Antron McCray, Kevin Richardson, Raymond Salaam, and Korey Wise, was wrongly convicted of assaulting a Central Park jogger in 1989. Yusef survived nearly seven years in prison until 2002 when he was exonerated by DNA evidence.
Today, he’s widely known as one of the Exonerated Five — their story is told in the Ava DuVernay-directed Netflix Series When They See Us. Yusef is also renowned public speaker, Innocence Project board member, and — most recently — a published author.
On March 18 at 11:30 a.m. ET, Yusef will join us for an engaging Facebook Live conversation with his award-winning co-author Ibi Zoboi to talk about their new young adult novel Punching the Air.
Innocence Project Field Organizer Nigel Quiroz will moderate the conversation and raise awareness about how wrongful conviction uniquely impacts youth and how to prevent them in New York.
Order Punching the Air from Harper Collins and use the offer code INNOCENCE and you’ll get free shipping on your order.
